Big $$$$ Being Spent on Missouri Senate Primary Race
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Businessman John Brunner poured more than $2.5 million into his campaign for a Missouri Senate seat during the past quarter.
Brunner now has put nearly $4.8 million of his own money into his Republican primary to challenge Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill. He has spent much of that on TV ads.
Congressman Todd Akin, another of McCasklil’s Republican challengers, reported raising nearly $284,000 during the past three months, which is more than Brunner received from individual donors. Akin reported $1.4 million in his campaign account at the start of July.
The federal campaign finance reports were due Sunday. Another Republican challenger, state Treasurer Sarah Steelman, had not released a summary of her report as of Monday morning.
