COOPERSTOWN, NY (KMOX) — Three generations of St. Louis Cardinals World Series managers are coming to Cooperstown for one incredible moment in time this weekend.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will enhance Hall of Fame Weekend with a salute to nearly a half century of St. Louis Cardinals’ World Series championships as part of the Awards Presentation at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 at Doubleday Field. The event will feature a special recognition to the living managers who guided the franchise to titles: Red Schoendienst in 1967, Whitey Herzog in 1982 and Tony La Russa in 2006 and 2011.
The special recognition will take place as part of the 2012 Hall of Fame Awards Presentation, which honors the recipients of the Museum’s broadcasting and baseball writing awards. Fox Sports analyst Tim McCarver will be presented with the Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in broadcasting, while Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun will receive the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for meritorious contributions to baseball writing. Admission to the Awards Presentation is free.
An appearance of the 2011 World Series Trophy will also be featured during the Hall of Fame’s salute to its annual award winners. The 2011 World Series Trophy will also be on display in the Museum’s Autumn Glory exhibit from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The Autumn Glory exhibit is included with Museum admission.
The annual Awards Presentation event is just part of an action-packed Hall of Fame Weekend at the Baseball Hall of Fame – highlighted by the inductions of Barry Larkin and Ron Santo as the Class of 2012 at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 22. Admission to the Induction Ceremony is free. A complete list of Hall of Fame Weekend activities is available at http://www.baseballhall.org.
The 2012 Induction Ceremony will feature more than 40 Hall of Fame members in attendance, and will feature the speeches of Barry Larkin and Vicki Santo – on behalf of her husband Ron Santo – on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. The Ceremony will be televised live on MLB Network, broadcast nationally on Sirius XM Radio, Sirius 209 and XM 89, and will be available via a Webcast at http://www.baseballhall.org.
