Inmate Charged After Scratching Jailer’s Face

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) — An inmate at the Madison County Jail faces another charge after he attacked a jail deputy.

It happened Monday when the guards attempted to move 33-year-old David Armstrong to a different part of the jail. Authorities say Armstrong pushed past the deputy and while doing so scratched and clawed the deputy’s face. As the struggle continued Armstrong attempted to bite the deputy.

Armstrong was subdued. The jail deputy was not seriously injured during the attack.

Armstrong is charged with aggravated battery. He also faces a predatory criminal sexual assault charge for the originally crime.

His bond is set at $40,000.
