EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) –  An inmate at the Madison County jail is charged with attacking a guard.

33-year-old David Armstrong of Alton was being moved from one area of the jail to another Monday when he reportedly tried to run past a guard who opened his cell, scratching and clawing the deputy’s face.

Armstrong also tried to bite the deputy, according to a sheriff’s department report.

Armstrong, who was in custody on a charge of predatory criminal sexual assault, now faces an additional count of aggravated battery.

The deputy was not seriously hurt.
