ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- With the excessive heat back, the call is going out again to help St. Louisans stay cool…and alive.
Cool Down St. Louis co-chair, the Reverend Earl Nance says the organization is keeping up with requests for assistance the best it can, but it needs more help.
“This is for real,” Rev. Nance says. “The message today is for people to continue to give. If you haven’t given, be sure to give so we can help with the issues of these utility bills that people are worried about payin’.”
Rev. Nance says that with your donation, you can help avert tragedies like those we’ve seen all to often in recent weeks.
“It’s horrifying when a love one finally gets to their loved one or senior, and find out that they passed away because of the heat,” he says. “Find out they didn’t turn their air-conditioning on, find out that they were worried about a bill.”
Cool Down says it’s fielded 21-thousand requests for help paying utility bills, and it’s been able to assist about 96-hundred applicants. Cool Down volunteers have installed nearly 900 air conditioners in homes.
You can help by calling 314- 241-7668, or by going to cooldownstlouis.org.
