CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (AP) — The St. Louis suburb of Chesterfield may soon be home to not one but two outlet malls.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatchreports that developers for both malls refuse to back down even as some wonder if there is a market for two, especially in an area that is already saturated in retail development.
All told, the two new malls planned by Taubman Centers and Simon Property Group would add another 200 stores and stand just miles apart.
A groundbreaking was Wednesday for Taubman Prestige Outlets Chesterfield, with plans to open in October 2013.
Simon Property had its groundbreaking two weeks ago for a project planning tenants such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Ann Taylor and Tommy Hilfiger.
