EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP)- The troubled East St. Louis school district is cutting 50 administrative jobs amid concerns the school system may run out of money by the end of September unless it gets an emergency loan.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports the jobs being eliminated include such positions as administrative clerk, custodian, coordinator, warehouse worker, security guard and attendance officer.

The district also says classes will begin Aug. 22, a week later than originally scheduled. That’s because the district still needs to get a handle on enrollment and how many teachers it will need.

The Illinois State Board of Education in June announced the ousting of the board for chronic academic underperformance, but a St. Clair County judge has put that takeover on hold.
