Wagner Wins Missouri’s Second District Primary

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – With Todd Akin abandoning his six-term career in the U.S. House and making a run for the Senate, his 2nd District seat was guaranteed to change hands in 2012. The question of who would fill it became a little clearer Tuesday night with the primary victory of Ann Wagner.

Wagner was the Chair of the Missouri Republican Party from 1999 until 2005 and co-chair of the Republican National Committee for four years, as well as an American ambassador to Luxembourg. She was favored in the race which had become overshadowed by the hotly-contested 1st District race as well as the equally contentious Republican Senate primary race.

Despite his standing as a councilman and mayor pro-tem in Webster Groves, Wagner’s opponent Dr. Randy Jotte was a political novice by comparison.

“He doesn’t need a job in politics,” his online profile read, “but he believes his private sector experience uniquely qualifies him to help solve our nation’s most critical domestic issue — health care.”
