ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOX) Big money and big endorsements poured into Missouri in a crowded Republican primary Tuesday with voters deciding Congressman Todd Akin is the best to try and unseat US Senator Claire McCaskill.
Akin heads into the general election after more than a year of Republican ads targeting Claire McCaskill, considered one of the most vulnerable Democrat incumbents. Millions of dollars have been spent in campaign ads linking McCaskill to President Obama’s policies — a theme Akin continued in his victory speech Tuesday night. “Claire McCaskill was the deciding vote on passing Obamacare and it’s my plan to be the deciding vote and get rid of Obamacare.”
Akin had the endorsement of Mike Huckabee, defeating businessman John Brunner who had the backing of the US Chamber of Commerce and former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman called a “mama grizzly” in support ads from former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
