ST. LOUIS  (AP)   The San Francisco Giants have had a reputation as a team with good pitching and light hitting.

After Marco Scutaro’s grand slam and career-high seven RBIs helped the Giants paste the St. Louis Cardinals 15-0 Wednesday night, that may be changing.

The Giants have scored 56 runs on the first six games of their seven-game trip. San Francisco leads the NL with an average of 5.17 runs per game on the road.

“You see this lineup, and I don’t see any reason why we can’t continue doing that,” said Scutaro, who had the most RBIs in a game for the Giants since Jeff Kent had seven on May 1, 2001.

Scutaro had an RBI single in the third, a two-run double in the eighth and then hit his third career slam, connecting in the ninth off Mitchell Boggs.

“I was lucky enough to have a good pitch to hit and hit it out of the ballpark,” Scutaro said. “You’re just trying to take a consistent approach, no matter the situation.”

Ahead 2-0, the Giants broke it open with five runs in the sixth. They turned the game into a rout with four runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth.

“We don’t have a lot of games like this,” San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said. “It’s good to see the guys break out.”

That depends on what side you’re on.

“We got to have a short memory on this one and look forward to getting out here tomorrow and changing what we looked like tonight,” St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said.

Ryan Vogelsong (10-5) gave up three hits in seven innings. He has gone at least six innings in all 21 of his starts, the longest such streak for a Giants pitcher since Bill Swift did it 24 straight times in 1993.

“I’m just going out there and trying to get outs and trying to get as deep as I can into a game,” Vogelsong said.

Hunter Pence had two hits and scored twice. He began the day batting .143 (4 for 28) in seven games for the Giants since being traded from Philadelphia.

Melky Cabrera also had two hits and scored two runs. He leads the majors with 154 hits.

Cabrera led off the sixth with a double against Joe Kelly (2-5) and after a walk to Buster Posey, Pence hit an RBI single. Brandon Belt‘s single loaded the bases and an error by second baseman Tyler Greene on Ryan Theriot‘s ground ball led to two more runs and Kelly’s departure.

Brandon Crawford later had an RBI single and Angel Pagan‘s sacrifice fly made it 7-0.

Jon Jay had two singles for the Cardinals in his third straight multihit game. He is 11 for 22 in his last six games.

NOTES: Boggs had gone 23 straight appearances without allowing a run. … Allen Craig, who hit two solo home runs Tuesday, was out of the St. Louis starting lineup with soreness near his ribs. … Adam Wainwright (9-10) tries to reach the .500 mark when he opposes the Giants’ Madison Bumgarner on Thursday afternoon in the series finale. . . . Cardinals SS Rafael Furcal was given a shot in his sore back and sat out. He is considered day-to-day.
