UPDATE: Kayaker Found Dead In Metro-East Lake

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) – Illinois State Police say a man whose body was pulled from a lake in southwestern Illinois presumably drowned while kayaking.

Authorities say the body of 59-year-old David Lichtenegger of Fairview Heights was found partly submerged Wednesday evening in the lake in Frank Holten State Park near Centreville in St. Clair County.

State police Sgt. Mark Doiron says a kayak was found nearby on a bank.

An autopsy was planned. But Doiron says it appears Lichtenegger tipped over in the kayak and drowned.

Lichtenegger wasn’t wearing a life jacket, and none was found at the scene.
