EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – Edwardsville teachers will stay in the classroom and off the picket lines, as the approved a new tentative contract Tuesday night.
“I would trust that they made the decision that is best for the students. Every step of the way teachers have all said that class size was the most important factor during this negotiations,” Parent Vince Ojeda said.
Ojeda helped organize a group of a thousand parents on Facebook, demanding that the two sides go back to the table after negotiations broke down. “Obviously a strike would have been the worst case scenario.”
It’s believed 85-percent of teachers voted to approve.
The compromise now goes to a vote of the Edwardsville school board next Monday, after which details will be revealed.
