ST. LOUIS, (KMOX) — Keith Esters and Johnathan Perkins, both 18-years-old, have been charged in the murder of Megan Boken, according to Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce.
Esters — the alleged gunman — was charged this afternoon with 1st Degree Murder, 1st Degree Attempted Robbery, and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.
Perkins was charged with 2nd Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Attempted Robbery, and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. Both are being held without bond.
Joyce says the pair spotted Boken talking on her cell phone at Maryland and Taylor Saturday afternoon, and decided to rob her. A struggle broke out and Boken was shot in the neck and chest.
Until their arrest, Esters and Perkins had no criminal record, Joyce said. The circuit attorney refused to comment on reports that phone records from a stolen cell phone broke the case.
Meanwhile, Crimestoppers announced today all money donated to Megan’s reward fund will be returned or retained by donors.
“Tip information was not the determining factor in making the arrest of the subjects responsible for this homicide,” a spokesperson for Crimestoppers said in a press release.
