JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - More than 100 gruesome crime scene photos have been shown to jurors in the trial of a St. Charles County, Mo. native accused of shooting his wife and three children to death as they sat strapped into the family’s SUV.
Christopher Vaughn of Oswego, Ill. is charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege he killed his family as part of a scheme to start a new life.
Photos displayed in the Will County courtroom Friday revealed the scene investigators found in June 2007.
Vaughn’s wife, Kimberly, also a St. Charles County, Mo. native, was slumped to the side in the front passenger seat of the blood-spattered vehicle. She had a bullet wound just under her chin. The three children, ages 8-12, were slumped in the back seats, still restrained by their safety belts.
Defense attorneys claim Vaughn’s wife carried out the shootings.
