ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — More conservative Christian voices coming out in support of embattled Missouri Congressman Todd Akin.
About 120 signatures so far, including five former presidents of the Missouri Baptist Convention, like the Reverend Dr. Gerald Davidson, former pastor of First Baptist Church in Arnold.
“We know Todd Akin, we know his character, his moral beliefs, his social beliefs, his biblical stance, we know his stance on moral righteousness,” said Reverend Davidson. “We need to forgive him… I personally think we should support him and go on with the task we have before us.”
Another signer, the Reverend Harold Hendrick of St. Louis calls Akin a good man who made a mistake in his wording apologized for it and still the whole country is beating up on him.
Akin is running as the republican nominee for the US Senate seat in Missouri. Earlier this month Akin’s comments on rape and abortion garnered a firestorm of criticisms from both sides of the isle and calls for him to step down from big GOP players, such as Mitt Romney and RNC chair Reince Priebus.
