Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Wheelchair-Bound Woman

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) –  A man is under arrest for assaulting a woman who was confined to a wheelchair.

According to the St. Louis circuit attorney’s office it happened last Friday afternoon at Barnes Jewish hospital.

42-year-old Daniel J. Hooper allegedly pushed the woman’s wheelchair outside the lobby without her consent, then touched her breasts and genitals through her clothing.

He faces two felony counts of sexual abuse and one of kidnapping. According to Joyce’s office Hooper has a lengthy criminal record.

Hooper is not employed by Barnes Jewish.

Hospital officials released this statement:

“The safety of our patients and staff is the utmost priority of Barnes-Jewish Hospital. A patient in our emergency department reported an incident to clinical staff Friday evening and we immediately contacted St. Louis City police. We are fully cooperating with the police and circuit attorney on their investigation.”
