SPRINGFIELD, ILL (IRN) – While Gov. Pat Quinn isn’t one to gamble himself, he maintains that he’s OK with an expansion of gambling.
While he vetoed gambling expansion legislation this week, Quinn says he didn’t do so because he’s against gambling. He did it because of oversight concerns.
After his veto, sponsors of the bill questioned Quinn’s sincerity in negotiations. Sponsors say that Quinn could’ve voiced his concerns to them but they didn’t hear from him.
Quinn says that’s not so.
“I’ve laid out my positions and ideas on [gambling],” Quinn said. “I told [lawmakers] directly. They know what they are. They just don’t happen to agree with me.”
Quinn wants to ban campaign contributions from casino owners. He says he’s optimistic there can be an agreement on a bill that he can sign into law.
