ST. LOUIS (KMOX)-The New Mississippi River Bridge has reached a new milestone and this one you can see as you drive by.
Crews are now installing the cables that will support the bridge deck.
MoDOT Mississippi River Bridge Project Director Greg Horn says they’re going up at the rate of about four a week, “We’re closing the gap between the two towers at about 150 feet a month, so it will take about ten more months to get that completed.”
Horn says each cable consists of 34 to 72 individual dime-sized cables inside a conduit.
He says the bridge will require about 600 miles of that cable, enough to stretch to Kansas City and back.
The $667 million project is expected to be completed in January of 2014.
