Drought and Olympics Lead to Busy Pool Season

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KMOX) – Today wraps up the unofficial last day of summer, one that local pool managers say kept them busy.

Despite rain this weekend, Manchester Aquatic Center acting manager Stacy Wolfe says the summer’s record heat never kept people away.

“It’s not really temperature, it’s more the rain,” Wolfe said. “If it’s not rainy or cloudy, as long as the sun is out, we still have people here whether it’s 70 degrees or 100 degrees”

She says when the Olympics started, she saw more people in the lap pool and more people interested in learning how to swim.

“When I do go over to the competition pool, I hear conversations among people who are swimming laps about Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte.”
