ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There are many meetings concerning preparing for emergencies, but one being held today in Creve Coeur has a unique focus.
St. Louis Commissioner on the Disabled David Newburger tells KMOX the All Ready Community Summit will focus on the special needs of the disabled in an emergency.
Newburger says that while the disabled have to be allowed to make their own life choices, those choices come with a responsibility.
“It’s important that they have their eyes wide open if they put themselves in dangerous situation,” Newburger said. “And they need to understand that they are doing that”
Newburger says that means if someone with mobility issues decides to live or work on the upper floors of a high-rise building, they have to make sure they have a way out in an emergency.
