UPDATE: Suspect Arrested After Standoff in Bellefontaine

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — The man police believe shot a St. Louis police officer outside a convenience store overnight is in custody after a morning long standoff.

Authorities arrested the man just before 8 a.m. at a home on St. Cyr Road. Three other people exited the home with their hands up, but were not arrested.

It all began around 1:15 a.m. when officers were called to a convenience store in the 8800 block of N. Broadway in reference to a robbery. When they attempted to approach the suspect he open fired on them. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

In the gun exchange a 30-year-old officer was grazed in the upper-left arm. He was taken to the hospital, but he is expected to be OK.

During the standoff this morning police surrounded a home near Danforth Elementary Academy. That school could not open until the standoff was over and the scene was secure. Danforth Elementary Academy is open.
