SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP)-Sunday is Grandparents Day, and the Illinois Department of Aging is recognizing those who are helping raise their grandchildren or other relatives.

Department Director John Holton is praising those grandparents who’ve taken on another round of parenthood.

The department says there are 200,000 children in Illinois living in homes headed by a grandparent, more of whom are serving as primary caregivers.

The Department on Aging has a program to support grandparents with the challenges in providing grandchildren with a stable environment.
