BERKELEY, Mo. (KMOX) –  A Berkeley police officer was briefly hospitalized after he was struck by a fleeing suspect late Monday night.

Officers taking part in an ongoing narcotics investigation approached the vehicle in the 8300 block of Fairbanks around 9:30 pm and identified themselves as policemen.

At that point the SUV driver accelerated, striking one of the officers and sideswiping a patrol car.

The suspect also reportedly tried to run down another police car as he headed east in the westbound lanes of Airport Road.

The chase continued down I-70 into St. Louis, where the suspect was eventually located and arrested.

The injured officer was treated and released at an area hospital.
