KIRKWOOD, MO (KMOX) -A Kirkwood woman has been arrested today on tax fraud charges after prosecutors say she filed false tax returns, claiming over $3 million in refunds.
Nancy Cicero, 69, was indicted by a federal grand jury last Wednesday on four counts of filing false tax returns and three counts of filing fraudulent documents. All charges are felonies.
Prosecutors say the false returns were filed for the four years between 2005 and 2008.
“At the IRS, protecting taxpayer money is a matter we take extremely seriously,” said Steve Howard, IRS Criminal Investigation Acting Special Agent in Charge, in a press release. “An integral part of the agency’s mission involves detecting and catching fraudulent tax refund claims.”
“The object of these schemes is to defraud the government and the taxpaying public.”
