CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - University of Illinois starting quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase will miss his second straight game Saturday with a sprained ankle.
Illinois sports information director Kent Brown confirmed Friday that Scheelhaase isn’t expected to play in Saturday’s home game against Charleston Southern. Sophomore Reilly O’Toole will start for a second straight week for Illinois (1-1).
Scheelhaase sprained his left ankle during the season-opening win against Western Michigan.
The Illini struggled last week struggled to put points on the board without Scheelhaase in a 45-14 loss at Arizona State. O’Toole and Miles Osei split time at quarterback in that game.
Scheelhaase had practiced earlier in the week and said that he expected to play.
Charleston Southern (0-2) is a Football Championship Subdivision School.
