“Resident Evil: Retribution,” a dark science action film, finished on top of the movie box office this weekend with an opening total of $21.1 million. This genre of film seems to be very bankable at the box office right now.
Even though the 2-D version is already in the home film library of many families, “Finding Nemo 3-D” found a welcome reception in movie theaters taking in $17.5 million. Led by Albert Brooks and Ellen DeGeneres, this film features some of the most remarkable voiceover work in modern animated movies. And in case you were wondering, “Finding Nemo 2″ is due out in 2016, probably in IMAX and 3-D.
“The Possession,” a potent scare movie with a devilish story, came in third this weekend with a meager $5.8 million, while”Lawless” continued to disappoint in fourth place with just $4.2 million. Fresh from his stint at the RNC, Clint Eastwood returns to the big silver screen next weekend playing an aging baseball scout in “Trouble With the Curve.”
A cops as buddies movie with serious overtones, “End of Watch,” starring Michael Pena and Jake Gyllenhaal, also opens next weekend. Movie exhibitors are expecting a welcome return to better box office numbers staring very soon.
