JOLIET, Ill. (KMOX) – The jury in the trial of a former St. Charles County man accused of murdering his wife and three children, has today off before hearing closing arguments tomorrow.
Christopher Vaughn ended the testimony phase of the trial Tuesday by telling the judge that he did not wish to testify in his own defense.
Over the last four weeks the prosecution has tried to prove that Vaughn murdered his wife and their three children because he wanted to start a new life in the Canadian wilderness.
Vaughn’s attorneys claim it was his 34-year-old wife, Kimberly, who killed the children in the family SUV near Chicago in 2007 and shot Christopher as he fled from the scene.
They say she was distraught over Christopher’s extra marital affairs and was influenced by a combination of medications.
Christopher and Kimberly grew up in St. Charles County and the family lived there for a time before relocating, eventually to Oswego, Illinois.
