Clayton Mayor Pushes For Tax Increase

CLAYTON, MO (KMOX) – Clayton’s mayor is rallying support for a property tax increase for the County Library.

Linda Goldstein is the co-chair of the Proposition L effort. It would increase property taxes by six cents to fund major renovations at county libraries.

She say’s that’s an estimated extra $22-per-year from each household, but it’s been more than 30 years since the County Library has asked for an increase.

“There is a plan to use the taxes and three bond issues over the next ten years to actually build out what’s needed for the facilities and expand the services,” Goldstein said.

She says in a down economy, the library has seen an increase in users, and she’s confident the measure will pass. She’ll be speaking at various city council meetings between now and the election to spread the word.
