Charges Filed in Fairview Hts. Officer Involved Shooting

BELLEVILLE, IL. (KMOX) - Ten charges have been filed against a man who shot a Fairview Heights Police officer in the hand early Tuesday morning.

St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly filed the charges which range from several counts of attempted first degree murder to armed violence.

It was at Highway 50 and Bunkum Road in Fairview Heights where the officer pulled over a suspicious car.

While walking back to his police cruiser with the suspect’s I.D. the man shot the officer in the hand.

Officers returned fire and struck the suspect several times.  He managed to speed off , but crashed into a garage in Centreville.

State’s Attorney Kelly says the suspect remains hospitalized and is  “incapacitated and Immobilized” and will face the charges if he survives.
