EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) - Three members of an Edwardsville family are lucky to be alive after flames tore through their home early Friday morning.
KMOX’s Brian Kelly reports that the blaze in the 700 block of Stolze erupted around 3 am.
Edwardsville Fire captain Bob Morgan reports that a neighbor called to say the home was engulfed in flames, but the occupants were still inside.
“She could see people inside at the time of the fire and they exited from a rear exit, which was the only way out of the structure,” Morgan says. “The fact that they had to exit the house through the area where the fire was burning I would say they were lucky to make it out without injuries.”
Morgan says the flames got into the eaves and ran up into the attic, causing the roof to collapse.
Again, no injuries reported…the cause is under investigation.
