Driving over Eads Bridge downtown gets a bit more difficult Monday morning.
There’s nothing wrong with the top level roadway but the bridge below needs work.
Eads Bridge was opened in 1874 and, despite up to nine coats of paint, some of the metal is still rusting.
MetroLink trains use the lower deck of the bridge and that’s where most of the work will be done.
For most of the time, Eads Bridge road traffic will be down to one lane in each direction until the project is completed.
Metro has installed new rail switches to send its trains around the work zones and says, that way, Metrolink schedules can be maintained.
