EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KMOX) – A federal investigation has lead to the resignation of Edwardsville’s Director of Police.

James Bedell turned in his resignation Friday.  Deputy Police Chief Major Don Lask has been appointed interim director.

Mayor Gary Niebur says Bedell is being investigated by the FBI and IRS. There’s no word on the cause for the investigation.

Bedell had served as Director of Police since September, 2007.
