The Muny is hoping to announce all the shows for the 2013 season before the end of October, and it seems the Disney mega-musical, “Mary Poppins,” has a good chance to be on the slate. “Mary Poppins” would be a premiere for The Muny, but it has played St. Louis twice before, first at The Fox and then at The Peabody. Both engagements were very popular with audiences.
The day after the end of The Muny’s 2012 season, Executive Producer Mike Isaacson’s first at the helm of the venerable outdoor theater, Isaacson said, “It’s time to keep going. I was very happy with most of the things we did. A lot of the things I wanted to bring to The Muny ended up on the stage, and the most gratifying thing was that the audiences accepted them, they relished it and they went with the new energy.”
In 2013, The Muny seems headed for a season of shows that could possibly include a total of 3 to 4 productions that have never played The Muny before. Isaacson, a successful Broadway producer and Tony Award winner before coming to The Muny, feels that his Broadway connections are a positive for The Muny both in the titles of the shows that will be coming, and in the quality of the principal casting.
