St. Charles Man Charged with Killing Girlfriend

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOX) — Charges against a St. Charles man have been upgraded to 2nd-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend.
48-year-old Steven Martineau and his live-in girlfriend Linda Cerutti got in an argument at their home May 26th of this year. During that argument police say Martineau hit Cerutti knocking her unconscious. She never regained consciousness and later died.
Police say Cerutti had been the victim of domestic assault in late February. According to court documents, Martineau struck her twice in the face. Cerutti did not file a police report regarding that incident.
Martineau has been held since the incident in May on misdemeanor charges of assault 3rd degree from the February incident.
Martineau was also being held on an out-state warrant from Michigan involving child support charges. He continues to be held in the St. Charles County Jail with a cash only bond of $50,000.
