ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -It has happened again…..A national publication is ranking Saint Louis as the second most Dangerous City in America.
Forbes.com reports while crime is down four-percent in St. Louis….the violent crime rate is 18-hundred-57 per one-hundred-thousand residents. But University of Missouri Saint Louis Professor Richard Rosenfeld disputes those numbers. He says our crime rate and crime ranking is artificially inflated because people who come into the City and become victims of crime go into the numerator, the top part of the crime rate, but because they do not live in the City, they are not part of the denominator.
Rosenfeld adds the bigger challenge is changing the perception that St. Louis is plagued by crime. Rosenfeld any city that is small in relation to broader metropolitan areas is going to be unfairly ranked. Rosenfeld it’s much better to rank metropolitan areas
