MORRISON, Ill. (AP) Attorneys will begin making opening arguments Monday in the second trial of a man accused of killing eight people in Illinois and Missouri in 2008.
The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports that jury selection ended Friday with three alternates chosen, to join the 12 jurors selected earlier in the week to hear the trial of Nicholas Sheley. The 33-year-old Sheley has pleaded not guilty in the slaying of 93-year-old Russell Reed of Sterling. Prosecutors allege Sheley killed Reed in his home and stole his wallet and car on June 23, 2008. His body was found in the trunk of his car three days later.
Sheley has already been convicted in the murder of a Galesburg man and faces trials in six other deaths, including an Arkansas couple murdered at a Festus, MO hotel.
