MANHATTAN, Kan. (CBS St. Louis) — A Heisman hopeful has revealed that he never kissed his wife until his wedding day.
Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein, 23, told CBS Sports’ Jim Rome that his Christian faith was behind the decision.
“It was really a God thing from top-to-bottom,” Klein said. “He had really put it on both of our hearts.”
Klein married Kansas State women’s basketball player Shalin Spani on July 21. CBS Sports reports that Klein made a vow when he was 14 that he would only kiss his wife on their wedding day. They didn’t even have a date before they got engaged.
Gary Spani, Shalin’s father and former KSU football player, told CBS Sports that his daughter heard “a voice” in her head that told her she would marry Klein.
“Yes, it’s unusual,” Shalin Spani said.
Klein says that they both wanted to be “pure” for when they became husband and wife.
“(It’s) actually something that we both kind of held to and wanted to maintain a level of purity for that special day,” Klein said.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound quarterback — who has been compared to New York Jets’ Tim Tebow — has gone for a combined 2,264 yards through the air and on the ground with 28 total touchdowns. Klein has led the unbeaten Wildcats to No. 2 in the BCS standings.
Kansas State will face Oklahoma State on Saturday night.
