ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Mark McGwire might be moving west. Joe Strauss with the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that McGwire intends to accept a deal to be the next hitting coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Though a deal between the Dodgers and McGwire is not considered final, the Post reports McGwire has told the Cardinals that he will not likely accept their offer of a contract extension.
McGwire served as Cardinals hitting coach for three seasons, under Tony LaRussa in 2010-2011 and under Mike Matheny in 2012.
The motivation for the move would primarily be geography. McGwire and his family currently live in Southern California and he has long emphasized the role his wife and children play in career decisions.
