HARRISBURG, Ill. (AP) - Eight people killed when a tornado tore through Harrisburg earlier this year are being memorialized with new monuments in the southern Illinois city.
The monuments to victims of the Feb. 29 tornado were dedicated Thursday outside Harrisburg Medical Center.
One honors 22-year-old Jaylynn Ferrell, who was a nurse at the hospital. The other monument pays homage to all of the victims killed in the twister. The monuments were paid for by donations.
During Thursday’s ceremony, each victim’s name was read before there was a moment of silence.
Ferrell’s mother attended the dedication. Patty Ferrell called it a great opportunity to remember the loved ones lost, and she says the families now have a bond.
