New Athen Police Chief Accused of Stealing iPad, iPod from Evidence Room

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) — Charges are filed against a small Illinois town police chief, after an iPad and iPod went missing from an evidence room.

New Athens Police Chief Dallas Hill is accused of taking those items.

He is charged with two counts of Official Misconduct and one count of Theft Over $500.

Hill turned himself in Monday afternoon at the St. Clair County Jail and was released after posting 10 percent of a $20,000 bail.

In a statement Captain Steve Johnson said, “We are not above the law. These charges show we are accountable for our actions. Whenever the badge is tarnished, which represents our oath of honor, it is very troubling for all of law enforcement. It should be noted these criminal charges are not representative of the entire New Athens Police Department.”
