CHICAGO (IRN) – It’s Election Day, and tonight the president will be in Illinois awaiting the vote tally.
In 2008, Barack Obama held his election night rally in Chicago’s Grant Park. This year the venue is Chicago’s McCormick Place, a large convention center.
U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) says that he knows the president is eager to get back home for the night’s events.
“I remember flying into this town with the president in a helicopter a couple of months ago and as we’re coming down, looking at the skyline, he said I sure miss this town,” Durbin said.
“He said I have friends here who are my real friends, not political friends. He said they really cared for me as a person. Michelle and I miss being with them. So his hearts here and I’m glad he’s going to be here on election night.”
Durbin says McCormick Place was tapped for the Election Night festivities to ensure there aren’t any problems should the weather be unfavorable.
Republican candidate Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, will be holding his Election Night rally at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
