Election Returns

SPRINGFIELD, IL (IRN) - No expert sees Illinois as a swing state, but the chairman of Mitt Romney’s campaign here remains optimistic.

“If we all do what we know we need to do, (Chief) Justice (John) Roberts will ask Mitt Romney to raise his right hand to become President of the United States,” Dan Rutherford, the state treasurer, told a Get Out the Vote rally in Springfield Monday night.

He does not sound as if he will lose sleep over a President Obama victory in Illinois.

“I think if Illinois can be a strong contender to help support candidates of the county board, the county offices, State House, Senate and the Congress, and do well for Gov. Romney, we call it a success,” Rutherford said.
