NORMANDY, MO. (KMOX) - A substitute teacher at Normandy Middle School was arrested for allegedly holding a knife to a student.
It happened in front of other students in a math class. The 64 year old substitute teacher has been identified as Stanley Covington. He is charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
While the incident is still under investigation witnesses said it started with an argument between Covington and a student who was late for class.
During the altercation Covington allegedly reached into a bag or satchel and pulled out a knife with a nearly six inch blade and brass knuckles.
Normandy Middle School officials acknowledge the incident happened on school property.
A statement reads “We hold the safety of our students in highest regard, and have reported the incident to appropriate authorities.” ”The District must treat all matters involving personnel as confidential. Therefore, the District has no further comment at this time.”
