St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and acting St. Louis Postmaster Cathy Vaughn unveil the new Purple Heart stamp on November 10, 2012 (KMOX/Brad Choat).
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There’s a new “forever” stamp issued by the U.S. Postal Service— honoring America’s Purple Heart Medal recipients.
Acting postmaster at St. Louis, Cathy Vaughn, was part of the stamp’s unveiling Saturday outside Soldiers Memorial downtown, “It means so much to us to be able to provide the nation with something that everybody can use. It symbolizes the freedom that we have.”
Vaughn said the post office also has a four-star stamp for veterans that, like the Purple Heart, is also a “forever” stamp— meaning it can be used to mail a first-class letter anytime in the future, no matter how high postal rates climb.
