CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Southern Illinois University has developed a scaled-back plan for the future of its Carbondale campus after closing the books on a set of more ambitious goals.
The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports (http://bitly.com/Xv34o3 ) the old plan was called “Southern at 150” and
included the goal of making the school one of top 75 public research institutes nationwide by the time the university turns 150 in 2019.
Chancellor Rita Cheng says the old plan wasn’t bad but was drafted in a different era for public higher education. It was launched in 2003.
The new plan has been the result of two years of work by a committee. It sets goals for student success and the university’s finances, among other things.
It’ll likely be presented to the board of trustees early next year.
