“Skyfall” soared to an opening box office total of $87.8 million in North America, after setting opening box office records in Europe the week before. The film has the opportunity to end up with over a billion dollars of box office when all is said and done, making it the most financially successful James Bond film ever released.
The 3-D animated hit “Wreck-It Ralph” came in a strong number two in its second week in release with $33.1 million, giving it a grand total of $93.7 million since it opened. Animated movies continue to be money-in-the-bank for exhibitors.
Denzel Washington playing an airline pilot who is an alcoholic in “Flight” was in third place this weekend with $15.1 million.
