EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A 34-year-old man originally ordered to spend a half century in prison for attacking a young woman at a state park has gotten his sentence reduced to 15 years.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Keith Recklein was resentenced Wednesday in Madison County in the 2008 attack on the woman at Horseshoe Lake State Park.
That came six months after a southern Illinois appellate court threw out Recklein’s convictions on two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault. The court ruled that prosecutors failed to adequately prove he committed those offenses.
But the court found that prosecutors did prove the lesser offense of attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault.
Prosecutors on Wednesday had pressed for a 30-year sentence.
