POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) - A convicted sex offender accused of kidnapping two southeast Missouri girls is now facing additional charges.
Jeffrey Dean Shelton of Poplar Bluff allegedly entered a home in Poplar Bluff on Oct. 24 and took a 5-year-old girl. Police say he surrendered later that day.
The arrest led to further investigation and Shelton was charged with abducting and sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl from Qulin, Mo., four days earlier.
The Poplar Bluff Daily American Republic reports that Shelton was charged Wednesday with burglarizing the home where the 10-year-old was taken. Then, federal prosecutors on Thursday charged him with three counts related to child pornography.
Shelton has pleaded not guilty.
He spent more than 20 years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting three children in Texas.
