WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A divorced Palestinian man accused of illegally moving his three young children from their home in Kansas to his native Gaza amid an international custody dispute with their American mother says the family can hear and feel the bombings, but insists they are all doing fine.

Ahmed Abuhamda told The Associated Press in a phone interview Tuesday from the Gaza Strip that as a Muslim he has taught his children that everybody has to die one day. He says his children accept that if their time is coming, it will come no matter what.

But such talk only heightens fears for the children’s safety from their mother, Bethany Gonzales, in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park.

Their father moved the children to the Middle East in February.
