Puppy Tied To Truck, Dragged Down I-55

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A reward has been offered in the search for a person who allegedly tethered a dog to the back of a truck and dragged it down I-55.

St. Louis Police responded to the scene this morning after a driver had seen the dog being dragged and called police. Officers found the driver of the truck “distraught,” according to the Humane Society. He said he didn’t know the animal and wasn’t aware it had became tied to his truck.

The Humane Society of Missouri is investigating the incident and a $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. The Humane Society is also looking for the owner of the puppy.

The dog is a five and a half month old brown male pit bull. He was in shock and is “suffering from severe and traumatic injuries including exposed tissue and bones,” according to Humane Society officials. He is being treated at the Humane Society of Missouri Maryland Heights facility where shelter veterinarians are closely monitoring his condition and doing everything they can to relieve his pain.

“The puppy is in critical condition and it is too early to determine if he will survive his injuries,” Human Society of Missouri veterinarian Dr. Mark Wright said. “We are stabilizing him and consulting with our surgeon to determine the appropriate course of treatment.”

He had a collar and leash, but no ID tag or microchip were found.
